One of the most common beauty problems is a breakout of pimples. According to Grandma's Home Remedies, there are several different types of pimples, including whiteheads; blackheads; papules, which are small lumps; pustules, which are red with pus at the center; nodules, which may be deeper and painful; and cysts, which can cause scars. Some of the causes of pimples are hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, menstruation, medication, skin sensitivity to beauty products and heredity.
Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits to promote healthy skin. This includes green leafy vegetables, citrus, melons and berries. Cut back on fatty meats and opt for lean meat like chicken and fish.
Avoid sugary foods and drinks. Sodas, candy and other foods high in sugar content may promote inflammation, which can cause breakouts and scarring.
Stay hydrated. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day and more if you are active or spend time in extreme heat. When you want something besides water, drink fruit juice or spritzers with half fruit carbonated water and half fruit juice.
Wash your face with a cleanser designed for facial skin twice a day -- in the morning and at night before going to bed. When pimples develop, resist squeezing or popping them, as this may lead to infection and scarring. If you wear foundation or any other makeup, use an oil-free product. Avoid wearing other people's makeup to prevent cross contamination.
Herbal Skin Treatment
When you have a breakout, try using an herbal skin treatment. Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a few drops of mint juice from boiling three mint leaves in 1 cup of water. Apply this paste to your pimples and leave it on for approximately 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and blot dry.
Another herbal pimple remedy is a paste of fenugreek leaves and water. Apply it over the pimples and the surrounding skin before you go to bed. Allow it to dry and leave it on overnight. When you wake up the next morning, rinse it off with warm water. This will help prevent pimples from forming and may get rid of the ones you already have.
Many of the remedies to prevent or get rid of pimples can be found in your kitchen. If you have an outbreak of pimples that are swollen and inflamed, apply ice cubes directly on the area. After a pimple outbreak, mix equal parts honey and tomato juice, apply it to your face and leave it on for approximately 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Your pimples and the redness that can accompany them will be less visible.
