Historic Boston is home to many attractions. Staying active and experiencing what the city has to offer is easy in Boston. A variety of activities are offered throughout the year such as bike and kayak tours, as well as ice skating and nearby skiing during the winter months.

Boston Bike Tours

The Boston Bike Tour company offers "Urban Adventours" all on bicycle. The company rents bikes and organizes a variety of informative city-wide tours that will expose participants to many of the city's main and lesser-known attractions while staying active. Tours include routes from the Italian North End and historic Beacon Hill to Fenway Park and the Back Bay. The Emerald Necklace Tour weaves its way through Boston's parks system and the Tour de Boston takes riders by the city's waterways like the Charles River and the Boston Harbor.

Charles River Canoe & Kayak

The Charles River Canoe & Kayak Co. rents canoes and kayaks to water enthusiasts who wish to explore the Boston and Cambridge riverfront. Harvard University, Boston University and MIT are all located along the Charles River. Other highlights include the Newton Lakes District and the Charles River Basin, which affords panoramic views of the Boston skyline. The Skyline Tour and Boston Harbor Tour are among five total tours available. Instruction and guided trips are offered.

Kendall Square Skating Rink

A recent addition to Boston is its new Kendall Square Skating Rink. The maintained ice-rink also features a café that serves light snacks and beverages like hot chocolate. A heated pavilion is also on-site. The Ice Stars skating school offers various group and private skating lessons for beginners ages 3 and older. The rink is open during winter months from midday until evening hours.

Blue Hills Ski Area

Located only 12 miles from downtown Boston is the Blue Hills Ski Area. Eight trails, two lifts, two magic carpets and one rope-tow service are available to skiers and snowboarders. Most of the trails are lit up for night skiing. The facility has recently upgraded its services and now offers rental equipment and snowmaking capabilities. A licensed learning center has programs for children ages 4 and up as well as private and group lessons.

Boston Sportfishing

Boston Sportfishing offers chartered fishing trips in and around the Boston Harbor. The inshore fishing specialists at Boston Sportfishing will take anglers to catch striped bass, haddock, pollock, wolfish and flounder. Deep-sea fishing tours are also chartered for Blue Fin Tuna and Cod. All bait and fishing gear is provided for every trip. Charters for up to six people are available for half and full-days.
