Dr. Edward Bach believed your mental state played a vital role in maintaining health. In 1936, he designed a system of essences to balance your thoughts so your body's natural defenses could work. They are prepared as tinctures to be taken orally in droplet form. Two of the 38 essences contain "rock" in their titles. The combination remedy used for emergencies also contains a Bach flower rock remedy. The essences are available in health food stores and through the Internet as a self-help alternative but should not replace professional advice when warranted.

Rock Rose

The Rock Rose essence is derived from the Helianthemum nummularium flower. The perennial commonly grows low to the ground in chalk and limestone soils. The golden-yellow, five-petal flowers are gathered and prepared according to Dr. Bach's original instructions. Julian Barnard, in "Form and Function," describes Rock Rose as the essence that can help calm your fear and panic so you can think rationally.

Rock Water

In "Form and Function," Barnard describes Rock Water as unique to the Bach Flower system because it is not made from flowers but is prepared from water taken from a spring considered by Dr. Bach to have healing powers. The Bach Centre describes Rock Water essence as the remedy for people who demand perfection to the point of self-denial and repression. They identify it as helpful if you are seeking more flexibility.

Rescue Remedy

In addition to the 38 essences, Dr. Bach also developed a combination remedy to be taken during crisis or emergency situations. The Bach Centre claims Rescue remedy is the most famous Bach remedy. They suggest you use it when you don't have time to select specific essences. The Bach flower rock essence included in Rescue is Rock Rose, included as the remedy to restore decision making and dispel terror and panic.

Preparations

Bach Flower essences, including the Bach Flower Rock remedies, are prepared using Dr. Bach's original methods. Nelsons, a homeopathic pharmacy and the official distributor of Bach flowers, identifies tinctures available in alcohol and alcohol-free preparations. Rescue remedy is prepared by combining five essences according to Dr. Bach's instructions. This crisis combination is available as a spray, liquid and in a capsule form.
