Cleansing Supplements

Cleansing supplements are used to remove toxins from the body in order to help your digestive system and liver function, and provide relief for medical problems such as allergies and asthma. However, the Mayo Clinic states that colon cleansing supplements are usually not necessary since the digestive system can get rid of toxins naturally. The Los Angeles Times quotes Dr. David Kastenberg, the co-director of nutrition and metabolic diseases at Thomas Jefferson University, as saying the ingredients in some cleansing supplements are potentially dangerous. Check with your doctor before use.

NuAge Colon Cleanse

Manufacturer's claims for this product include the ability to break down toxins, lose weight and increase energy. It further claims to remove 10 to 40 pounds of waste from the intestines, though Kastenberg disputes this possibility. The ingredients found in the supplement include fiber and a blend of antioxidants. Use the product as a dietary supplement daily and drink plenty of water to help move the bowels along. The manufacturer offers a free trial program. Users who prefer to avoid enrollment in the company's auto shipment program should call to cancel before the end of the trial period .
