1. Attend a Holistic Health Fair
Since alternative and complementary therapies are growing in popularity, practitioners such as reflexologists, massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, acupuncturists and other healers will often participate in one-day events offering demonstrations of various services as well as contact information. This is a good way to explore new therapies without committing yourself to an hour-long session before you are convinced that a style is right for you. Local therapists and massage schools are aware of these events and are good sources of information. Once you attend a health fair, you can get on a mailing list that will apprise you of future events.
2. Call a National Reflexology Organization
The American Reflexology Certification Board maintains a list of ARCB-approved practitioners throughout the United States. The organization also has a list of reflexology schools that can be contacted to find local reflexology practitioners. Similarly, the Modern Institute of Reflexology maintains a database of practitioners. State-specific organizations, such as the Massachusetts Association of Reflexology and the Reflexology Association of California, also offer contact information for practitioners within the state.
3. Ask Local Holistic Health Providers
Local massage therapists, acupuncturists and other health care professionals that are involved in the holistic healing community can be a wealth of information. If there are no specific reflexology listings in your local phone book, give a different type of practitioner a call and ask if he can give you a phone number or the name of a local spa, salon or health office offering reflexology. Since reflexology is still catching on in the West and is not as well known as standard forms of therapy, you may have to make several phone calls to track down a therapist. Also, some health food and vitamin stores maintain bulletin boards on which you'll find the contact information and business cards of area holistic health professionals.
