Stretch marks mostly arise as a result of pregnancy. However, they can also be caused by extreme weight gain or loss or fast body growth. They often fade in a year or two. While it is impossible to remove them completely without surgery, there are some inexpensive ways to help them fade more quickly.
Natural Oils
There are several natural oils that can be used to fade stretch marks. Olive, lavender and cod liver oils as well as cocoa butter can be applied topically to the affected areas. Oils and lotions that contain vitamin E and C are also beneficial to skin; they promote tissue growth and help skin stay elastic.
Water
Stretch marks are caused mainly by skins lack of elasticity. Water consumption helps add elasticity which will reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Aim to drink at least eight to ten 8 oz. glasses of water each day.
Massage
Give your stomach a gentle massage with your hands or a hand roller for 10 minutes every day. This helps improve blood circulation. Since blood transports nutrients through the body, this stimulation allows more blood to reach the affected skin. The result will be an increase in collagen, elastin and blood to the stretch mark site, helping them heal more quickly.
Shea Butter
Shea butter is a rich solution extracted from the Shea tree in Africa. It contains Vitamin E and carotene which help improve skin's appearance. Rub shea butter on your stretch marks everyday to soften your skin and prevent dryness.
Healthy Lifestyle
Consume a diet rich in protein, vitamin E and vitamin C to get rid of stretch marks. Foods rich with these vitamins encourage tissue repair and growth, decreasing the likelihood of skin fiber breakage. Also, make aerobic exercise part of your daily regimen. This can include walking, jogging, swimming or bicycling. Exercise increases blood flow which help diminish the appearance of stretch marks.
