San Jose features many recreational activities in the city and around its immediate area. Joggers, hikers and bikers can choose from a variety of city parks that provide several trails. Golf, rock-climbing and kayaking are also popular outdoor activities, and exploration tours of the region are easily arranged.

Kelley Park

Kelley Park is a 156-acre park in the heart of San Jose. The park features the Japanese Friendship Garden with koi-filled ponds, paths and landscaped greenery. The Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is also located within Kelley Park and has kids rides and petting zoos. The park is popular among local joggers and walkers with its numerous paths and convenient location. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until one-half hour after sunset. The park is home to the History Park Museum.

Hellyer Park

Hellyer Park features a 333-m velodrome, a banked bicycle track, one of only six on the west coast. The track is open every Saturday morning with bike rentals at the park. Hellyer is a 354-acre park in the city. Coyote Creek snakes its way through the park and is home to diverse wildlife. A 1-mile nature trail runs parallel to the creek. Various multiple-use trails are found within the park and provide plenty of room for bikers, joggers and hikers to escape the bustle of the city without actually leaving it. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset.

Outback Adventures

The Outback Adventures company offers trips and classes for kayaking, backpacking and rock climbing in the San Jose area and throughout California. Outback Adventures also provides rentals for kayaking, camping and backpacking, as well as rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering. A kids adventure summer camp gets children involved in outdoor recreational sports and activities. Adults can enroll in a variety of kayaking trips for all skill levels, as well as mountaineering adventures that teach how to go snow camping and deal with avalanches.

Blackberry Farm Golf Course

The Blackberry Farm Golf Course features more than only golf. In addition to the executive nine-hole course, Blackberry has picnicking areas, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes games and three swimming pools. The recreational facility hosts various events, ranging from family reunions and birthday parties to anniversaries and company outings. Blackberry can accommodate groups ranging from 50 to 4,000 people. The facility is open from May through September.

Logitech Ice at San Jose

The popular ice rink is a local favorite for ice skaters of all ages. Visitors can skate the rink, play ice hockey, curling and broomball, plus try speed skating as well as ice dancing all year long. Logitech Ice is the official training facility for the San Jose Sharks professional hockey team. Fans are allowed to watch the teams training sessions.
