New York City can be a wonderland for kids as well as their parents. Children can take a virtual tour of the night sky, and see real dinosaur fossils. They can climb a rock wall, view New York Harbor from the crown of the Statue of Liberty, and check out a real submarine. Whatever your child's interest, New York has something to offer.
Hayden Planetarium
The Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History is a favorite with children. The planetarium is part of the Department of Astrophysics at the museum, and its mission is to educate the public about the findings in that field. You will be treated to the Virtual Universe program, which simulates a tour through our Solar System and the Milky Way galaxy. With the help of the Hayden Planetarium Digital Universe, you will learn to find the moon, planets and stars in the night sky. Upcoming phenomena including meteor showers and eclipses will be predicted and discussed.

American Museum of Natural History
If your child is interested in dinosaurs and animals, this is the place to go. Two dinosaur halls feature the largest collection of vertebrates, with a million specimens are on display. Evolutionary relationships are emphasized in the placement of the fossils. The popular animal habitat group dioramas have been a permanent exhibit at the museum for years. Displays are realistic, and in some cases, represent environments that have been so exploited that they no longer exist in the natural world.
