Acne scars take time to form. The wounds heal layer by layer until the visible scar remains. Dermatologist procedures require time to help fade acne scars. The same is true for natural remedies--time is needed to treat the scar one layer at a time. By using natural treatments consistently, acne scars should fade and blend away.
One of the best ways to “plump” your skin and bring it to its most healthy state is to drink a lot of water. The American Chronicle reports you should drink at least 80 oz. of filtered water per day. Water not only helps hydrate your skin, but it helps flush the toxins from your system, which aids in the prevention of further acne breakouts.
Baking soda when mixed with liquid and allowed to dry a little has the ability to act as a natural exfoliant. Sloughing of scarred tissue forces the skin to activate natural healing properties, helping to fade scarring. It is the same concept used in dermabrasion and microdermabrasion, which use brushes or crystals to scratch at the skin’s surface. When making the mixture, use one part baking soda to two parts water. Use your fingers to apply the mixture to the scar and gently rub in a circular motion for a minimum of one minute, and then rinse.
Aloe Vera & Vitamin E
Combined with drinking plenty of water, applying aloe vera mixed with vitamin E after exfoliating with baking soda acts as scar-fading system. Most over-the-counter products that come into contact with your skin contain one or the other for their moisturizing properties. They are also in most over-the-counter scar treatments. Aloe vera alone has properties that enable the skin to heal, and combined with vitamin E, its healing ability is strengthened. Vitamin E can get deep into the skin and at the base of the scar to heal from the bottom up, according to Acne Treatment Specialist.
Olive oil is another popular natural skin softener and would be an alternative to a mixture of aloe and vitamin E in a scar-fading system. Only the smallest amounts are needed to rub into the scar. No more than a pea size should be used for the entire face. According to the American Chronicle, olive oil moisturizes and promotes proper healing, bringing the skin’s natural elasticity back to help fade the scar away.
