Belly fat, also known as visceral fat, lies deep within the walls of the abdomen and situates around the organs of the body. Belly fat is much more dangerous than other types of fat due to the increase risk of heart disease, stroke, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and certain types of cancer.
Cut Calories
According to "Newsweek," there is no magic blend of food that will melt off belly fat. Burning more calories than you take in will cause weight loss anywhere in the body, including the belly. Keep a food diary to track how many calories you eat on average per day. Cut back on your portions to trim down your daily caloric intake.
Plyometrics
Plyometrics is a term used to refer to exercise moves added to workout routines to burn more calories. According to CNN, plyometrics allow you to burn twice the amount of calories in a walk and reduce larger amounts of belly fat. Walk at a moderate pace for 30 minutes. While walking, do 30 reps of squats and knee raises to increase your exercise intensity.
Food Avoidance
In a study performed by Lawrence Rudel, a professor of pathology and biochemistry at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, it was discovered that eating foods with trans fats seems to lead to a higher amount of fat around the belly. Foods that are high in trans fats include crackers, cookies, margarine, cake mixes, shortening, soup cups and fast food meals.
Interval Training
Interval training burns more calories during a walk to get rid of more belly fat. For an interval session, you stay at a steady, moderate speed on a walk and work in short bursts of a faster pace. CNN suggests a 30-minute walk with 10 minutes of the walk being done at a fast speed. This doubles your calorie burn.
