Hybrid vehicles are well-known for having more efficient powertrains than traditional gas-powered cars, which means they have greater fuel efficiency and cleaner use of fuels. As a result, hybrids cost less to run and produce less pollution. But going green and saving money aren't the only reasons to buy a hybrid vehicle.

Fuel Efficiency

Gas and electric hybrid automobiles boast higher fuel efficiency ratings than their conventional gas counterparts. This means you need to make fewer stops for gas, which saves you time. You also spend less on gasoline when you switch from a conventional car into a comparable-size hybrid, according to Edmunds. Your improved fuel efficiency also lowers your car's emissions, leading to less air pollution. A conventional Honda Civic with a 1.8 liter engine produces 6.3 tons of greenhouse gas emissions in an average year, and its hybrid counterpart emits only 4.4 tons.

Access To New Technology

Hybrid cars generally feature the newest or newer technologically impressive components. Some newer technologies that are often found in hybrids, but are not typically available in comparably-priced and sized cars, include advanced audio systems and voice-activated navigation systems, or sensors designed to assist the driver to stay in lanes, avoid collisions or parallel park. Aside from more expensive luxury vehicles, hybrids have become the primary premiering grounds for the latest in technological innovation.

Social Reasons

Some hybrids resemble conventional cars, but others make use of unconventional designs. For example, the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight have a sleek, aerodynamic look that advertises the fact that they are hybrids. According to Edmunds, many consumers drive hybrids in order to make a statement that they embrace a greener lifestyle, consciously reducing their contributions to environmental pollution and consuming fewer resources. Among groups that prize these attitudes and lifestyle choices, hybrid ownership can boost your social standing.

Other Benefits

When hybrid vehicles first became available, many of them came with substantial tax refunds or tax credits. While these credits expired a few years after each model's inception, they promoted hybrid sales and may have helped to secure hybrids as viable options for consumers. Additionally, many cities and states adopted traffic laws that allow hybrid drivers to use lanes normally reserved for carpools, motorcycles or buses. These lanes allow faster driving during rush hours and other periods of congestion, which lets hybrid drivers avoid the headaches associated with slow-moving traffic.
