The only proven and healthy way to lose weight is through exercise and proper diet. According to Professor T. Asmangulyan, an expert in the field of preventive medicine, aerobic exercise is the most effective exercise for losing weight quickly. Aerobic exercise not only burns calories, but it also speeds up your metabolism. Running, swimming, skating and biking are popular examples of aerobic exercise. Weightlifting is also an effective weight loss option, but weight training takes considerably longer to achieve results.

Running and Jogging

Running and jogging can be done anywhere with minimal equipment. According to the experts at the Weight Loss Source, a half hour of moderate-intensity jogging burns 300 calories. Running and jogging should be done for longer than 20 minutes for maximum effectiveness. According to Professor Asmangulyan, your body begins to break down fat only after the 20-minute mark of your workout.

Skating and Biking

Roller skating, ice skating and biking are also effective workouts that can help you lose weight. They exercise some of the largest muscles of your body: your quadriceps and your calf muscles. Skating also puts a considerable amount of strain on your core muscles. Regularly changing your pace, and skating or biking up an incline can amplify the fat burning of these exercises. The more intense and strenuous your workout, the more calories your body burns. Skating burns an average of 300 calories in 30 minutes. Biking burns up to 350 calories in the same amount of time.

Swimming

Swimming is a full-body workout and exercises nearly every muscle in your body. It also incorporates resistance training into your workout. The weight of the water provides resistance to your muscles, forcing your body to increase its muscle mass. The more muscle mass you possess, the more calories you burn. Swimming can burn up to 500 calories in the span of 30 minutes.
