Every summer, individuals and families head to campsites to enjoy the outdoors. Before leaving on a tent camping trip, however, make a list of supplies, so that you have everything you need to make the tent camping experience as comfortable as possible. A tent camping list of supplies should contain items for shelter, cooking, camp tools, personal hygiene and first aid.

Shelter

Shelter is the top priority on a list of supplies for a tent camping trip. Tents come in different styles and sizes to accommodate your party size and typically sleep one to eight people. In addition to a tent, you need a sleeping bag and sleeping surface. Sleeping bags are rated for different seasons and temperatures, so choose the appropriate temperature rating. You may prefer to sleep on the ground with a sleeping pad, on a cot or on an inflatable mattress. Additional items for shelter include a pillow and extra blankets.

Cooking

Camping is an opportunity to cook using the campfire, Dutch oven or BBQ grill. For food storage, use coolers, ice, water jugs and a thermos. When it's time to cook, use a fire starter to light the campfire, oven or grill. Eating utensils can include paper plates, bowls and silverware. You also need cleanup supplies such as paper towels, trash bags and dish soap. And you might need water filters, if you don't have access to clean running water.

Tools

Camp tools include a wide range of supplies that enhance the camping experience. The most common camp tools include a knife, multi-tool or axe. Bring a flashlight, headlamp or lantern to safely navigate around the campsite at night. You also might need sunscreen, lip balm or bug repellent. Other personal items and tools include extra batteries, digital camera, maps, camp chairs and rope.

Hygiene

Maintaining personal hygiene can be difficult while on a tent camping trip. Pack deodorant, toilet paper, razor, hair brush and feminine products. Some campsites have shower facilities, so pack a towel, washcloth, shower shoes and soap. You can put the personal items in a shower bag or small bucket to keep them organized and easy to carry around the campsite.

First Aid

Pack a first aid kit that includes bandages, gauze pads, hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic cream to treat minor cuts and abrasions. Also pack burn spray, aspirin or other pain reliever, and any personal medications in the first aid kit.
