Two Chinese herbs--Bupleurum chinese and a fungal herb called Cordyceps sinensis--might help alleviate symptoms and slow the advance of hepatitis C. Bupleurum helps prevent the development of liver cancer in patients with cirrhosis--a condition that people with hepatitis C frequently develop. Data show that Cordyceps improves immune system and liver function in patients with heptatits B, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. While the same data have not been produced for hepatitis C, the herb is good for general liver support and likely helps with all liver conditions, including hepatitis C.

Step 1

Consult your doctor before taking an herbal supplement to treat your liver condition. Hepatitis C is a serious condition and you should take Chinese herbs only as complementary to your prescribed treatments.

Step 2

Take 1ml of bupleurum root extract two to three times daily. These are instructions for a 1:1 dilution of bupleurum root extract. If you purchase a different type of bupleurum supplement, follow the instructions specific to it.

Step 3

Consume a 3 to 4.5g dose of Cordyceps twice daily. You can take it in capsule form or dissolve the ground powder in warm water.

Step 4

Remind your doctor periodically that you have begun taking these herbal supplements so that she can evaluate their effectiveness as she tracks the progress of your hepatitis.

Things You'll Need

  • Bupleurum root
  • Ground Cordcyceps sinensis
