Everyone will suffer from some sort of anxiety in his lifetime. It may happen as a result of a traumatic experience, or it may be a mere feeling of apprehension. Some people may react to a situation so severely that they have a panic attack. Regardless of severity, temporary anxiety may be relieved with the use of homeopathic remedies. Those who suffer from chronic anxiety should seek the advice of a homeopath before using a remedy to treat their anxiety.
Aconitum Napellus
According to Dr. Ellen Feingold, author of the book "Homeopathy, Herbal Remedies and Nutritional Supplements," aconitum napellus is considered the homeopathic substitute for Valium. Symptoms that indicate its use include the sudden onset of fear and agitation. When a traumatic injury causes fright or shock, this remedy may be used. Other signs to watch for include fear of death due to an illness, panic attacks and restlessness.
If suffering from the emotional trauma of a death in the family, aconite may also be helpful. Another indication for the use of this remedy includes fear and anxiety occurring at night when awakened. When used for adult anxiety and fear, a 200C potency can be taken once daily, and then reduced as the anxiety becomes less problematic. The remedy may be discontinued once fear or anxiety has been controlled.
Arsenicum Album
Arsenicum album is most often used for the anxiety that comes from pain. If a person is restless and chilly along with their other symptoms, arsenicum may help. The fear of death may also be expressed by a person in need of this homeopathic remedy. The 30C potency should be used every 1/2 to 2 hours until symptoms have abated. A potency of 200C may then be administered once or twice a day until the circumstances surrounding its use have completely come under control.
Gelsemium
The homeopathic remedy gelsemium is an excellent choice for anxiety that stems from the anticipation of an event. This may include fear of going to the dentist or the fear of taking an exam. The person in need of gelsemium may also be anxious and trembling from shocking or saddening news, such as a death in the family. This anxiety may be accompanied by confusion. This remedy is useful for those who become paralyzed by their anxiety. Dosages will depend upon the key symptoms and magnitude of the problem. The remedy may be administered three to four times daily in a potency of 30C until the shock or anxiety has worn off.
Rescue Remedy
Rescue Remedy is the trademarked name of a combination of five homeopathic flower essences. It is often used for stress and anxiety brought on by surrounding circumstances that affect a person's mental well-being. It is available as a liquid and can be taken every 30 to 60 minutes in four-drop measurements until the anxiety dissipates. A cream is also available for use on skin concerns such as dermatitis and diaper rash.
