Hair loss is a problem that affects men and women. It can be caused by age, genetics, medical condition and lifestyle habits. Whatever the reason, it can negatively affect your self-esteem. Instead of turning to prescription medications or over-the-counter treatments, try some natural herbal remedies. Remember to consult your physician before ingesting herbal supplements.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko is one of the oldest living trees on earth and its extracts are some of the best-selling supplements in the United States and Europe. According to The University of Maryland Medical Center, gingko leaves contain flavonoids and terpenoids, which have anti-oxidant properties. This is beneficial for hair because it enhances circulation, allowing increased blood flow to the head. This encourages a healthy scalp and follicles, thereby promoting hair growth.

Saw Palmetto

The saw palmetto plant is found mostly in the southeastern United States. It does not directly stimulate hair growth, but it blocks the effect of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, therefore preventing hair loss. Saw palmetto extract works for hair regrowth by preventing the formation of DHT and blocking receptors so DHT does not bind to hair follicles. More research must be done on the long-term effects of saw palmetto, but studies have shown this herb is promising for hair regrowth.

Milk Thistle

Milk thistle has been used for hundreds of years to treat liver disorders. It is reputed to encourage whole body detoxification. It is believed that it produces a balanced, healthy body, and will stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss.

Relora

Relora plant extracts help to regulate cortisol and DHEA in your adrenal system. These hormones are produced when you feel stressed have anxiety; both can cause hair loss. Since relora helps to control these hormones, the result is a more effective adrenal system and healthier hair shaft.
