4 Ways to Treat High Arch

1. Start With Arch Support Products

The easiest way to treat high arch is to use orthopedic products designed to reduce the strain on the front of your foot. Insoles and braces are designed to either re-balance your body weight--so it doesn't rest only on the toes and heels--or to align your feet so the arch doesn't produce an unusual curvature of the toes. Many online and catalog companies offer specialized products to solve the problem, or you can ask your doctor for custom-fitted designs.

2. Wear Shoes That Fit Well

You don't need to buy special shoes for high arches, but you should look for models that don't put any extra pressure on your feet. Extra-wide sizes or models that can be easily adjusted through shoelaces or buckles are better for you than those made with a rigid material that can't be adjusted. Regular shoes can easily be adapted by adding an arch support insert or padded foot supports.

3. Take Care of Underlying Problems

If high arch is caused by a neurological problem or another serious medical condition, you may need surgery to correct it, especially if the arch is so high that is causing chronic pain in the foot, leg or lower back. In the case of damaged nerves or weak ligaments, your doctor may recommend physical therapy to help correct the issue and to strengthen the foot enough to protect the arch from becoming inflamed or overworked.

4. Modify Your Daily Activities

High arch may cause pain for those who spend too many hours standing up or wearing high heels or other fashionable shoes. If you can, choose comfortable shoes over stylish ones and make sure you take breaks, sit down and give your feet time to relax.
