Packing for camp fills you with the anticipation of campfires, sing-alongs and sleeping under the stars. Knowing what to pack for camp and having the right equipment and supplies once you get there can make going to camp easy, fun and comfortable. Bedding, extra socks, toiletries and a few other items round out the camp packing list. And don't forget the camera!

Bedding

Your bedding should include a sleeping bag, extra blanket or sheet, and a pillow. You can also pack a bedroll instead of a sleeping bag. A bedroll consists of a pillow, two or three blankets, a sheet and a waterproof outer layer rolled up together. Also pack a sleeping pad if you're going to be sleeping on the ground or on a hard surface.

Clothes

For camping, you should pack clothes that are warm and comfortable and will dry out quickly in case of rain. For a week at summer camp, pack two or three pairs of jeans, five to seven t-shirts, two long-sleeved shirts, a sweatshirt or light jacket, a raincoat, a swimsuit, eight to 10 pairs of underwear and at least 10 pairs of socks. Also pack a pair of sneakers, a pair of hiking boots and water shoes if you expect to participate in activities that may require these kinds of footwear.

Toiletries

Pack a personal toiletries kit for each camper. Include soap, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner if desired, deodorant, a toothbrush, a washcloth and a towel. A toiletries kit is also a good place to store spare toilet paper, a bottle of calamine lotion and cotton balls for bug bites and poison ivy and a bottle of bug spray.

Personal Items

When packing for camp, include a flashlight and extra batteries. Also pack a camera and spare batteries, along with an autograph book for recording the names and addresses of new friends. Pack stationery, stamps or postcards, a journal, a deck of cards and a book or two for quiet times and before bed. Young campers may also want a favorite stuffed animal.
