The ancient practice of Ayurveda offers many home remedies for common ailments. Ayurveda is rooted in the idea that the body has the ability to accept healing when blockages are removed. In Ayurveda, the body's systems become balanced holistically through proper diet and lifestyle changes. Foods and habits that are causing the imbalance are replaced by healthful alternatives.

Fighting Depression

Ayurveda teaches that sugar, caffeine, junk food and tobacco may all contribute to depression. Fresh, green leafy vegetables, salmon, whole cereals and beans should replace the consumption of processed foods, according to Ayurvedic teachings. The website Ayurvedic Cure suggests that a breakfast of Swiss Muesli prepared with almonds, milk and yogurt may be useful in combating depression.
Another Ayurvedic recommendation to fight depression is to gather rose petals or lavender herb, boil in water and drink the tea. This should be repeated several times a day. Foods containing complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, pasta and oatmeal are recommended to be consumed because they can trigger seratonin production in the brain.

PMS Remedies

Ayurvedic Cure website offers a suggestion for premenstrual syndrome that includes hot tea, lemon juice and whiskey. A dash of lemon juice and 1 tsp. of whiskey is added to a cup of hot tea to relieve cramps and pain. Herbal teas which may ease the symptoms of PMS include chamomile and peppermint. Another Ayurvedic home remedy for PMS is to add 10 drops of chaste tree extract to a glassful of water to relax the muscles of the abdomen and legs.
Vitamin B-6 may be supplemented to relieve water tension and boost blood circulation. Eating soybean and alfalfa seeds may support healthy hormone production.

Heartburn Remedies

According to the website Ayurvedic Home Remedies, acidity and heartburn can be triggered by factors such as drinking and smoking. Eating food too quickly and consuming too many rich, spicy or oily foods may also be the culprit, the website advises.
Ayurveda offers many home remedies for soothing an acid stomach or heartburn. Drinking coconut water 3 to 4 times a day is recommended. Eating a plate of watermelon or cucumber every hour may also counteract the acidity. Eating lots of fresh radishes is also suggested.
Natural herbs which may be useful for this condition include chamomile, slippery elm, lemon balm and meadowsweet. These can be made into a tea or taken in supplement form.
