Sulfur is a crystalline mineral often used to combat acne. Because of its unpleasant odor and drying effects, sulfur is typically not used by itself, but usually is paired with other acne-fighting ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. If you are looking for an alternative to a typical skin-care routine, there are a myriad of sulfur-based skin-care products sold online and in stores.

Murad Clarifying Mask

According to the Murad website, Murad's Clarifying Mask works by absorbing excess oil and draws out skin impurities. It contains 4 percent sulfur, which is the acne fighting ingredient in this mask. Sulfur helps to reduce the severity of acne as it dries out the skin and encourages new skin growth. To use this mask, apply a thin, even layer on clean skin. Let dry for about 10 minutes. Rinse mask away with warm water and gently pat skin dry. For best results, use this mask once a week.

Dermalogica Concealing Spot Treatment

The Dermalogica website explains that their Concealing Spot Treatment contains sulfur to help clear up acne. In addition to medicating the skin, this spot treatment conceals with its lightly tinted formulation. It does not contain any artificial color or fragrance, making it ideal for sensitive skin. To use, shake well. Pat gently on any acne affected areas as often as needed throughout the day. Allow to completely dry.

PCA Skin Blemish Control Bar

As the PCA Skin website states, the Blemish Control Bar contains sulfur to help dry up acne. In addition, soothing botanicals help soften and reduce scarring incidences while the skin heals. To use, wet the sponge contained in the package. Work up a creamy lather and then cleanse the affected skin. Allow the lather to set on the skin for about two minutes before rinsing off.

Joesoef Skin Care Anti-Acne Facial Treatment Kit

The Joesoef Skin Care website offers a four-part, sulfur-based skin care regimen. This regimen cleanses and removes oil from specific areas. It can be used anywhere acne occurs. The acne soap cleanser, sulfur lotion, spot treatment and target cream all contain sulfur. To use, start by cleansing the affected skin with the Anti-Acne Soap. Use a cotton swab to remove dead skin and oil with the astringent. This is followed by the Anti-Acne Spot Treatment cream, which can be worn under makeup during the day. At night, apply the Anti-Acne Sulfur lotion as a mask for deep cleansing while you sleep.
