4 Ways to Hide Blemishes

1. Get the Red Out

So you have a party to attend or a hot date and you realize you have an unsightly blemish. Now what to do? First, try to reduce the redness and decrease swelling by applying a cold compress to the blemish. Believe it or not, you could also use your saline eye drops on the blemish, which will take the red out, as it does in your eyes. Additionally, dab a little toothpaste on the blemish for about 30 minutes, which will take the red out and reduce swelling.

2. Make Friends With Your Concealer

Once you have reduced the swelling and reduced the redness, use an oil-based or cream concealer to camouflage the pimple. If you have a large, red blemish, you should use a yellow-based concealer to reduce the redness. On the other hand, acne scarring or darker blemishes can be hidden with a concealer lighter than your skin tone. Choosing a foundation is also important. Opt for liquid or cream foundations, as they provide more coverage. Newer mineral-based foundations with a creamy texture are also good at hiding blemishes.

3. Application Is Key

The key to hiding a blemish is the application of your concealer and foundation. First, you need a clean slate, so cleanse your face and apply moisturizer. Then, apply your foundation as you normally do and set with a translucent powder. If the blemishes are still not hidden, apply your concealer using your fingertip or a concealer brush. If applying concealer with your fingertip, make sure to wash your hands first so you do not aggravate the blemish.

While some people apply the concealer first, then add foundation and set the face with translucent powder, applying your concealer last provides the best results and will get you through your day. It will also prevent the blemish from looking cakey and allow for easy touch-ups.

4. Make Your Concealer Portable

While most concealers will get you through 7 to 8 hours without fading, it is always good to take your concealer with you for touch-ups. Most makeup companies have compact-sized or tube concealers that will fit nicely in your bag. Also, if your concealer brush is too big, opt for a contractible lip brush, which works great as a concealer brush on the run.
