Infidelity leading to divorce is not confined to situations where one spouse is involved in an intimate heterosexual relationship. Extramarital affairs resulting in the filing for divorce include homosexual ones as well. A spouse is not penalized additionally in divorce proceedings, even in the case of a fault divorce, if the affair involved a homosexual extramarital relationship.
Finances
Financial conflicts and problems constitute a reason people head to divorce court in the United States, according to "The Divorce Organizer & Planner" by Brette McWhorter Sember. Conflicts of this nature leading to divorce do not merely include situations in which a couple is financial struggling. Rather, affluent couples end up in divorce court because of disputes surrounding how money should be spent or even invested.
Addiction
People file for divorce because spouses abuse or suffer from addictions to mind altering substances, according to "Nolo's Essential Guide to Divorce". These cases include situations in which a spouse is an alcoholic or addicted to any number of different types of drugs, including cocaine and prescription medications.
Abuse
Domestic abuse is a root cause of divorce, according to the American Bar Association Section of Family Law. In these types of cases, a wife typically is spouse seeking divorce relief. However, there are cases in which the husband alleges abuse by his wife.
