1. Avoid Constipation at All Costs
One of the easier ways to avoid developing bleeding hemorrhoids is to avoid constipation as much as you can. When you're constipated and strain to produce stool, the veins in your anus and rectum become enlarged, often resulting in hemorrhoids. Follow a high-fiber diet to keep your digestive system running smoothly and regularly. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables that have a high water content, as well as foods that have lots of fiber. Choose whole grains like whole-wheat bread, bran muffins and brown rice, rather than their refined-flour counterparts. Remember to drink plenty of water and other non-carbonated drinks that will soften stool naturally.
2. Stand When You Can
Take a break from sitting, especially if your job requires that you sit at a desk for most of the day. Sitting puts more pressure on the veins in your backside. If you already have hemorrhoids, they may become more inflamed and can possibly bleed if you do not lift the strain from that area of your body. Make it a point to get up and take a walk around the building once every hour during the workday to prevent a painful case of bleeding hemorrhoids. Think about beginning an exercise program in your free time. Regular exercise improves your circulation and will keep your bowels on track.
3. Pass on the Heavy Lifting
Lifting heavy loads on a regular basis can cause strain all over your body, but not everyone knows that it can be a contributing factor to developing hemorrhoids. Let someone else do your lifting for you if that is an option. If you must lift heavy items, try to distribute the weight as evenly as you can, and wear a support belt to prevent varicose veins, hemorrhoids and other injuries.
