Your liver, the largest organ in your body, has the vital task of converting food to energy and cleaning alcohol and toxins from your body. Excessive alcohol use, medications, toxins and even stress can tax your liver. Many people are turning to natural liver cleanses to clear toxins and promote a healthy liver. If you are experiencing signs of liver disease--such as jaundice, weight loss, or excessive thirst--see your physician immediately.

Step 1

Prepare for the ginger liver cleanse by performing some light exercise, such as walking, jogging or biking, to help stimulate circulation and begin ridding your body of toxins.

Step 2

Combine the freshly-squeezed juice from four lemons with the freshly-squeezed juice of two good-sized grapefruits in a blender, along with 10 ounces of distilled or filtered water. If desired, add a jolt of spice by tossing in a pinch of cayenne pepper. According to the Health Mad website, grapefruit contains the powerful antioxidants vitamins C and A, as well as lycopene, has antiseptic qualities, and may lower cholesterol.

Step 3

Grate a clove of fresh garlic and two inches of fresh ginger root, then use a garlic press to extract the juice from the gratings. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, ginger--the root of the zingiber officinale plant--contains volatile oils and phenols that give it anti-inflammatory qualities; it may also have cholesterol-lowering effects.

Step 4

Add the garlic and ginger juice to the juices and water in the blender, along with two tablespoons of cold-pressed flax oil and one teaspoon of acidophilus.

Step 5

Blend the mixture for 30 seconds, then pour and drink it. According to the Energise for Life website, it is best to take this cleanse in the morning, and to schedule the cleanse for a time when you have a day or two off from work.

Step 6

Follow a healthy, natural foods diet for the remainder of the day.

Step 7

Take 3 tablets of 50 mg. milk thistle capsules the day after you use the ginger cleanse, and continue for three weeks. According the University of Maryland Medical Center website, several studies have suggested that flavonoids in the milk thistle protect the liver from toxins.
