If your hair looks and feels dry, it may be damaged. Hair may become damaged after it is exposed to heat, styling products, chemicals and harsh weather. If you frequently blow dry, straighten, hairspray, perm, color or expose your hair to wind and sun, your hair may become more dry than usual. To revive limp, dry hair, use natural home remedies.
Mayonnaise
Applying mayonnaise to the hair may help replenish your hair's natural moisture and make it smooth and shiny, says David Daines, owner of David Daines Salon in New York City. Once a week, slather a generous amount of mayonnaise on your hair, recommends Daines. Leave the mayonnaise in for at least five minutes, up to an hour. Place your hair in a shower cap to keep the mayonnaise from dripping. Rinse the mayonnaise out in the shower with cold water and shampoo as usual.
Avocado Mask
Applying an avocado mask to the hair may help restore moisture, says Helen Ambrosen in an article in "Cosmopolitan." Mix one banana, one avocado, one egg and 2 tbsp. of olive oil in a bowl until the ingredients are the consistency of pancake batter, then apply a generous amount to the hair. You will have some of the mask left over for future applications, says Ambrosen. Apply a piece of plastic wrap or a shower cap to the hair to prevent the mixture from dripping. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes, then rinse out in the shower and shampoo and condition as usual.
Shampoo Less
Shampooing hair less frequently will help the natural oils in your hair reach your dry ends. Washing your hair only a few times a week is enough, says Caitlin Gaffey in an article in "Cosmopolitan" magazine. If you must wash every day, stylist Arsen Gurgov suggests washing the ends of the hair with conditioner first, then applying shampoo to the roots and ends before rinsing it out. This way, the ends will stay nourished and moisturized.
