Located in northeastern Ohio, Cleveland provides visitors with numerous educational and recreational activities whose goal is to promote learning and enhance well-being. Explore cultural and historical highlights, sample fresh and healthy local produce, or even catch a show at the nation's second largest performing arts center, Playhouse Square Center.

Geography and Climate

Located on the shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland is situated on the Appalachian Plateau with an elevation of about 1,100 feet. The city has a seasonal climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. Cleveland generally experiences crisp, sunny weather during the months of September through November, making it an ideal time to visit and explore the city.

Recreation

A variety of recreational activities--including swimming, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking and boating--are available in the Cleveland Metroparks Area. Over 60 miles of paved, multipurpose trails are open for walking, running or cycling. Trail locations include Mill Stream Run Reservation, North Chagrin Reservation, Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation and Rocky River Reservation North.

Attractions

Visitors can relax while viewing nature at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, with 10 acres of lush gardens featuring native plants from around the world on display. You can also tour the historic USS Cod Submarine Memorial and see the submarine accountable for sinking almost 30,000 tons of Japanese ships during World War II. Additionally, fashionistas will love the annual Fashion Week Cleveland, a large event featuring fashion runway shows and art educational events.

Museums

Visit educational museums in the area including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Great Lakes Science Center and Western Reserve Historical Society. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is a waterfront museum that displays a large collection of rock-and-roll memorabilia, including interactive exhibits, archives and rock-related films.

Food

Satisfy your food cravings with some healthy food choices at the West Side Market. This public market was built in 1912 and offers fresh produce, dairy products and meat. Stock up on fresh food supply from the Cleveland Clinic Market, where local farmers sell their fresh produce. Live music and health screenings are also offered.
