Just about everyone out there has told a lie. Few, if any, can honestly say that they have gone their whole lives without telling at least one little white lie. Some people are better at telling good lies than others, just as some people are better at detecting a lie than others. Liars tend to tell on themselves without even knowing it. By knowing the classic signs of lying, you can spot the bull before you end up fooled.
No Eye Contact
A liar may have a hard time looking you directly in the eye. If the person that you are talking to can't seem to hold your gaze for more than a few seconds, it may be because they are trying to deceive you. An honest person should have no problem meeting your gaze while talking to you.
Too Many Details
According to "The Wisdom Journal's" 15 Signs You're Lying to Me, a person who is telling you a detailed story may be doing so in attempts to cover up a lie. This is because they have worked out the details of their lie in advance, and they may feel compelled to lay them all out in efforts to make you believe their story. Ask them for these details later, and they may not be so clear on them.
They're Fidgeting
According to "Forbes'" feature, Ten Ways to Tell if Someone is Lying to You, touching the ears and face is a sign of nervousness and may indicate a liar.
Twenty-year police veteran Derrick Parker, author of "Notorious C.O.P," says a person who can't seem to stop fidgeting may be uncomfortable because of the lies they are telling you. This is especially useful in detecting lies in children or people who are normally pretty honest and have little experience in this department.
The Guilty Pause
Lies are often scripted in advance. For this reason, people who are telling lies may have difficulty answering even the simplest of questions. If there is a pause between the question you asked and their answer, it could be because they needed a few seconds to formulate a fabricated answer to it in their head.
