It's a myth perpetuated by the media that all women want larger breasts. In fact, many women have breasts which are uncomfortably large. Still other women have breasts that don't conform to their personal gender identity. For these women, decreasing breast size is a matter of personal comfort and happiness. Some woman are able to reduce breast size through at-home methods, like weight loss, while others must undergo surgical treatments to experience sufficient results.
Step 1
Lose body fat. Your breasts are made up of mostly fat, so when you start a weight loss program, you'll also start a breast reduction program. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends exercising five days per week for at least a half hour.
Step 2
Build muscle. According to Shape Fit, barbell bench presses, pushups, decline dumbell flys and dips are examples of exercises that tone and strengthen the muscles behind your breasts. These muscles improve fat burning and help you support heavy breasts.
Step 3
Have breast reduction surgery. During this procedure, a doctor will remove some of your breast tissue, leaving you with smaller, lighter breasts. Recovery time is usually three to four weeks, according to Peace Health, and the surgery takes anywhere from three to five hours.
Step 4
Have a breast lift. Like a breast reduction, a lift removes some of your breast. However, a breast reduction removes skin and tissue whereas a lift only reduces skin. This procedure helps end sagging and drooping that comes with age and breast weight. Often times, lifting your breasts back to their proper position eases discomfort and reduces their appearance.
Step 5
Wear the proper bra. No matter what route you take, reducing breast size is a journey, not a quick fix. Get fitted to make sure you're choosing the size bra that will minimize neck, back and shoulder strain.
