Overview

Toxins in the body come from a multitude of internal and external sources. Yeast is a toxin made inside the body while pesticides on fruits and vegetables, alcohol, raw meat and pollution all contain external toxins. Your body is efficient and processes toxins through the liver and eliminates toxins through respiration, urine, fecal matter and sweat. A number of foods assist the body's elimination process and clean out the system. Raw, organic, plant-based foods are highly recommended and can also be a regular part of a healthy diet.

Citrus

Citrus, specifically lemons, have been used for hundreds of years to effectively flush toxins from the body and aid the liver's cleansing process. Vitamin C is an effective detox vitamin because it helps to digest toxins. Lemons, limes and oranges are loaded with vitamin C. These citrus fruits will help you to detox, curb your appetite and quench your thirst. Many detox plans encourage you to drink warm water mixed with fresh lemon juice each morning and throughout the day.

Garlic

The use of garlic as a detox food is extremely beneficial. Garlic is considered a blood cleanser and decreases blood fats, has antibiotic properties and can boost your immune system. It stimulates production of detox enzymes in the liver, which filters toxin residues normally leaked into the intestines.

Water And Green Tea

Drinking water and green tea is highly recommended because a natural flush of toxins occurs with consumption. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, specifically catechin, known to increase liver function. In addition to cleansing toxins from the body, green tea claims to lower cholesterol levels and decrease inflammation.

Fruits and Vegetables

Raw foods have incredible cleansing and detoxification capabilities. Fruits contain a high amount of liquid content and help to wash out the body. Vegetables and fruits are loaded with antioxidants, important vitamins and fiber. When you process or cook fruits and vegetables, nutrients are almost entirely destroyed. Broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse and stimulates digestive enzymes better than most vegetables. Include raw foods such as sprouts, cabbage, apples, carrots, grapes, and beets.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has long been known as a natural remedy for many health issues, including detoxification. It is made with organic apples and fermented twice. The first fermentation makes apple cider. The second fermentation makes apple cider vinegar and creates an abundance of acids and enzymes, which the liver uses to cleanse the body and quickly purge toxins. Apple cider vinegar is also used to treat allergies, strengthen the immune system and aid digestion.
