The Best Ways to Speed Up the Metabolism

Metabolism is the speed at which your body burns calories. The best way to boost your calorie-burning is to eat in a way that will make it easier for your body to digest food; you should also exercise and each day stay physically active in some way. Doing all this will help return you to your natural set point that determines your metabolism.

Exercise FIrst Thing in the Morning

Do some form of cardiovascular exercise first thing in the morning. Doing this serves several purposes: one, you start the day with a strong motivation to eat in a way that will support weight loss; two, for many people this is a time-saver, as it is easy to become too tired or busy after work or school at the end of the day to workout.
Exercising before eating breakfast will give you a jumpstart for the day. Having just walked your dog for 20 minutes or jogged several laps around the block will give you strong motivation not to binge on junk food later in the day.
This also sets up a convenient daily exercise habit that is manageable and realistic, instead of grueling sessions for hours once or twice a month.

Eat More Small Meals

Eat several smaller meals a day. Doing that will keep your blood sugar level and will stoke your metabolism. Dieters worried about their metabolism might be tempted to skip breakfast or eat only one meal a day; this places the body in a "feast or famine" phase.
Your body will actually slow down its metabolism were you to eat only one meal a day, thinking it must conserve what little food it is given.
Eating several smaller meals are easier to digest and you will not be as tempted to binge. For example, eat four smaller meals of 400 calories each for a 1,600-calorie daily intake.

Use Digestive Aids

Eat foods that help keep your metabolism in smooth working order. Papaya and pineapple are often served at spas, as each contains enzymes that make them quickly digested. Or, you could consume digestive enzymes made from papaya or pineapple, which has bromelain.
Drink peppermint or ginger root, as both are well-known digestive aids. Both are available as commercial teas or you can thoroughly wash about two tablespoons of peppermint leaves or chop a tablespoon of fresh ginger root, placing in a mug and adding a cup of boiling water.
