Side Effects of Etodolac SA 400mg

Physicians may prescribe etodolac SA in the 400mg dosage as part of the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Etodolac SA 400mg, like similar non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, such as celecoxib, ibuprofen, indomethacin and naproxen, relieve symptoms by decreasing the inflammation associated with diseases. This medication works to reduce mild to moderate stiffness, swelling and joint pain.

Pain

Any form of pain that occurs because of etodolac SA 400mg use classifies as a common serious side effect of the medication, the Mayo Clinic indicates. Pain may occur in the abdomen or in the stomach, where it may be severe. The drug may cause headaches, as well as pain in either side of the body or in the lower back, or general aches throughout the body. Pain may also occur in the chest, or manifest in the neck glands as tenderness. Pain may happen during urination as well. The Mayo Clinic recommends immediate consultation with a doctor if any pain occurs because of etodolac SA 400mg.

Nausea and Diarrhea

Most NSAIDs can cause gastrointestinal problems, the National Institutes of Health report, including etodolac SA 400mg. With this drug, people may experience such serious common side effects as nausea and vomiting, belching and indigestion. Vomiting may produce blood or a coffee-grounds-like substance. The medication can also induce diarrhea and constipation, both of which normally include abdominal cramping.

Arrhythmia

Taking etodolac SA 400mg can change the way in which the heart beats. It can cause the serious common side effect called tachycardia, when heart rate accelerates beyond the normal rate. The drug can also cause the opposite problem, bradycardia, or lower-than-normal heart rate. Tachycardia can lead to high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks. Bradycardia can reduce the amount of oxygen reaching the body parts, which can cause memory loss, brain damage and sluggishness. Both classify as serious problems requiring immediate medical attention.

Flu-Like Syndrome

Etodolac SA 400mg can cause a side effect called "flu-like syndrome." This condition produces symptoms of the flu without an infection present, including fever, runny nose, nasal congestion, chills, hoarseness and cough. If no flu exists, it's important to speak to a physician about these symptoms.
