Bach flower remedies correlate with an emotion or frame of mind and therefore address the underlying reason for your sleeplessness. Consider the reasons for your insomnia, and then choose the remedy that seems to fit. Combine up to seven flowers for complex issues. The remedies use brandy as a preservative, so if your medications interact with alcohol or you are a recovering alcoholic discuss their use with your health care professional.

Vervain

If you find it hard to quiet your mind or you lie awake at night thinking, try the vervain remedy. Dr. Bach categorizes vervain as the remedy for over-enthusiasm, often to the point of fanaticism. Taking vervain while in that state of mind allows you to switch off your mental energy, relax and enjoy periods of leisure.

White Chestnut

Sometimes described as a remedy for worrying, white chestnut more precisely works for the person who thinks in circles--like a dog worrying a bone. If sleep evades you due to a continuous loop of unwanted thoughts and mental arguments, white chestnut will help you think straight and address the root of the problem calmly and rationally.

Agrimony

Try agrimony if you hide your troubles under a layer of joking and cheerfulness. Insomnia occurs when you are alone with your thoughts at night and can no longer avoid your worry and anxiety. Agrimony helps you become well-rounded and accept tears along with laughter. Bach notes that agrimony personalities often turn to excessive drinking or drug use.

Honeysuckle

Insomniacs who keep reliving the past, or who fear sleep because of dreams or nightmares about past events, may benefit from the honeysuckle remedy. Try it if you feel that you have nothing to look forward to and the best days of your life are behind you, or if you lie awake at night dwelling on past regrets. Honeysuckle allows you to enjoy the present, look forward to the future, and remember and learn from the past without reliving it.

Scleranthus

Indecision that keeps you awake at night, constantly weighing your options without reaching a decision, matches the scleranthus personality. The decision might be major, such as whether to quit your job, or minor, such as whether to have chicken or steak for dinner. Scleranthus helps you connect with your intuition, making it easier for you to choose between your alternatives.
