Babies can benefit from Bach flower remedies, which work on emotional and mental states rather than physical symptoms. The remedies traditionally contain brandy as a preservative, but some stores carry remedies preserved with glycerin. Dissolve two drops of a remedy in a bottle of milk or formula, fill a 30 ml dropper bottle with spring water and two drops of a remedy, or apply two drops directly to your baby's forehead, lips or behind his ears. If you are nursing, take the remedy yourself; it will pass to the baby through your breast milk. Always discuss the use of Bach flower remedies for an infant with your health care professional.
Impatiens
As the name implies, the Impatiens remedy works for impatience. Try this remedy if your baby easily becomes irritated or frustrated when she doesn't immediately get what she wants. Impatiens brings relaxation and restfulness to relieve your child's frustration.
Walnut
Walnut eases the process of transition or change. Babies pass through many transitional periods as they grow up, and walnut can be especially helpful at birth, during teething and when the baby begins daycare or nursery school. This remedy offers protection from outside influences and provides constancy.
Cherry Plum
Cherry plum belongs to the fear category of remedies, and specifically works on the fear that underlies a loss of control. Give cherry plum to your baby during a fit of irrational, fearful screaming, or between temper tantrums to lessen their occurrence.
Mimulus
Mimulus also belongs to the fear group, as the remedy for a known fear--as opposed to Aspen, which works on general anxiety when you cannot name the source of the fear. Babies fear many things, from monsters to dogs to abandonment, which manifests as separation anxiety. Mimulus helps your baby find her inner strength and deal with her fears.
Crisis Formula
Dr. Edward Bach, who developed the Bach flower remedy system, created one combination remedy that he called the crisis formula. This formula addresses the emotions that accompany emergencies and trauma through five flowers: Rock rose for terror; impatiens for agitated thoughts and feelings; cherry plum for fear of the loss of control; star of Bethlehem for the after-effects of shock; and clematis to prevent light-headedness or lack of focus in a crisis. Give your baby the crisis formula after an injury or a nightmare. Use four drops of this formula instead of two.
