Constipation, generally defined as an infrequent or difficult bowel movement, is an uncomfortable but very common condition. Constipation is usually temporary, and can be alleviated by getting more exercise and eating a diet high in fiber. According to Mayoclinic. com, if your constipation is severe, lasts more than three weeks, and involves intense pain or bloody stools, you should seek medical care. Some people turn to Bach flower remedies, developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930's, for help with constipation. Bach flower remedies are distillations of assorted flowers diluted with water and brandy; the specific energy related to each plant is believed to help specific emotional and spiritual issues, which can in turn affect physical health.

Step 1

Visit a health foods store that carries Bach flower remedies or visit the site listed in the Resources section to select the proper constipation remedy by matching your personal traits and issues to a specific remedy. One good choice is crab apple, or Malus sylvestris, for feelings of uncleanliness, acceptance of the body, and physical cleansing. Star of Bethlehem, or Ornithogalum umbrellatum, is another good choice. It is treats the problem of excessively holding onto deep feelings. Other Bach flower remedies appropriate for constipation include honeysuckle, Lonicera caprifolium; rock rose, Helianthemum nummalarium; and agrimony, Agrimonia eupatoria. According to the School of Natural Health Sciences website, you should use one remedy at a time rather than using a mixture of several essences at once.

Step 2

Place two drops of the Bach flower remedy in a glass of filtered or distilled water. The water should be room temperature.

Step 3

Sip the remedy at intervals that feel comfortable to you. Replenish your glass as needed. Add 2 more drops of the chosen flower essence with more water and take as often as desired.

Step 4

Alternately, you can place 2 drops of your chosen Bach flower remedy on your tongue or massage it behind your ears, on your temples, or on your wrists.

Step 5

Record the results in a notebook, detailing what remedy you used, how you administered it, and whether or not it relieved your constipation. This can help you evaluate how well the remedy worked.
