The NordicTrack A2550 Pro and the now-discontinued NordicTrack C2500 both offer an array of similar features that are common to most modern NordicTrack treadmills. In fact, the two machines are almost identical, with only a few minor differences. Treadmill Doctor ranks the NordicTrack C2500 as one of the best treadmill values under $1,000.
Motor
Both the A2550 and C2500 treadmills come with a 2.5-horsepower, self-cooling, commercial-grade DurX motor. Both treadmills have a maximum speed of 12 mph, which is equivalent to running five-minute miles---more than enough speed for most runners. The A2550 has a maximum incline of 10 percent, while the C2500 inclines up to 12 percent.
Maximum User Weight
The A2550 can support a slightly heavier user than the C2500, with a 350-lb. maximum user weight capacity as compared with the C2500's 325-lb. maximum user weight.
Running Deck
The C2500 offers a slightly larger running area, at 20 inches wide and 60 inches long, than the A2550's 20-by-55-inch running deck. Both machines offer a cushioned running deck; the A2550 uses trademarked ComfortShox technology, while the C2500 features DuraSoft V Adjustable Cushioning.
Features
Both the A2550 and C2500 come with a similar range of features now common on NordicTrack treadmills, including interactive iFit programming that lets you customize your own fitness programs, work out with virtual personal trainers and run virtual-reality workouts over real-world trails. The A2550 sports a wireless Internet connection for accessing iFit material, while the C2500 uses preprogrammed iFit cards that you insert into the treadmill.
Other features available on both treadmills include an iPod-compatible music port, preprogrammed workouts and folding treadmill decks that help save space when the treadmill is not in use.
Warranty
When purchased new, both treadmills come with a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor, with a one-year warranty that covers parts and in-home service. However, Treadmill Review.net warns that it's common practice for the manufacturer not to honor the warranty on treadmills purchased secondhand. Take this into account before purchasing the C2500 treadmill, which has been discontinued.
Cost
Both the NordicTrack A2550 Pro and the C2500 would retail for about $1,300 when purchased new at full price, but as of May 2010 both are usually available for less, especially the discontinued C2500. Treadmill Doctor lists the C2500 at a retail price of just under $1,000.
