There are 12 muscles in your face, each with nerves and blood vessels attached. As you laugh, frown, smile or cry, you use these muscles. But as you age, the use of your face starts to cause fine lines and wrinkles to appear. Face exercises stimulate blood flow and circulation to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. As with all new treatments, facial exercise should be discussed with your doctor or dermatologist first.
Face Relaxer
This exercise will relax your face muscles to increase your circulation and relieve tension. Open your lips as wide as you can. Your cheeks, chin and lips should be stretched to their limit. Pause briefly and relax.
Throat Relaxer
Inhale deeply and exhale forcefully, opening your mouth as wide as you can and sticking your tongue out as far as possible. While exhaling, open your eyes and look up. This exercise will help relax your throat and face to improve circulation.
Jowl Lifter
The jowl lifter facial exercise will help tighten jowls located near your mouth. To perform this exercise, begin by gently placing your fingertips along your jawline and then bring them down about 1 inch so they rest just below your jawline. Tilt your head back so you are looking toward the ceiling. Curl your bottom lip over your top lip and turn your head to one side. Flex your cheek muscles and squeeze your eyes shut. Simultaneously, slide your fingertips up and over your jawline toward the outside corner of your mouth.
Crow's-Feet
This exercise will help get rid of fine lines and crow's-feet located near your eyes. Place your thumbs on the outside corners of your eyes and shut your eyes tightly. Gently slide your thumbs from the outside corners of your eyes toward your temples to the top of your head.
Forehead Tightener
The forehead tightener will help tighten loose muscle and drooping skin on your forehead. Put your index finger from each hand above either eye. Gently pull your eyes down while lifting your eyebrows up. Perform this exercise 10 times a day.
Lip Lifter
If you have fine lines or wrinkles around your lips, you can do the lip lifter to tighten saggy skin. Put one finger in your mouth and suck as hard as you can. Slowly remove your finger; then repeat to firm your lips.
Eye Elevator
The eye elevator helps tightens loose skin and tones the muscles around your eyes. To perform the eye elevator, close your eyes and relax all the muscles in your face. Keeping your eyes closed, lift your eyebrows as high as you can. Your eyelids will be stretching downward. Hold this position for 10 seconds before relaxing. Alternatively, keep your eyes closed and look up and down as far as possible.
Cheek Raiser
To prevent premature aging of your face, perform the cheek raiser. The cheek raiser tightens and tones the muscles of your cheeks. Begin by placing your three middle fingers on your upper cheeks and press down. Simultaneously, smile as hard as you can so your face is pushing your cheeks against your fingers. Keep your head back throughout the exercise.
