If you want to safely lose weight and keep it off, the wisest course is to do it slowly. However, there are times when a specific event is looming or you want to kick-start your long-term weight loss with a short-term goal. The science of weight loss remains the same though, no matter how quickly you seek to lose weight. Keep in mind that the body is not picky about where it gets its calories to burn, so quick weight loss plans will draw energy from muscle as well as fat. In the short term, though, plans that help you lose weight quickly can boost your confidence or get you into those jeans that require a 10-pound weight loss.
Juice Fasting
Juice fasting is an effective way to consume very few calories for maximum nutrition. Dr. Mehmet Oz even recommends it to kick-start a new eating plan or to give the body a chance to rid itself of toxins. His wife, Lisa Oz, recommends a juice fast a few days each month. To do a juice fast, you consume only fresh-squeezed fruit and vegetable juices throughout the day. The Oz team suggests that you not consume too many sweet fruits. Vegetable juices can provide anti-oxidants and fiber. Many people will juice-fast for three days before reintroducing healthy, low-fat foods into their diet.
Cleansing
The Master Cleanse, a plan for losing weight quickly, has been used by many people, including pop singer Beyonce Knowles, who used the cleanse to drop 20 pounds for her role in "Dream Girls." Knowles has said that she would not recommend the plan for long-term use and that help from a health care provider is necessary. The Master Cleanse is sometimes called the lemonade diet, as you make a large container of a mixture of lemon juice, water and maple syrup to drink throughout the day. Additionally the cleanse requires some sort of laxative be used, either as a tea or a salt-water flush to keep the bowels moving. The Master Cleanse is traditionally done for 10 days, but weight loss can be seen in as little as a weekend.
Exercise Efficiently
For quick weight loss, you need to perform aerobic exercise in addition to following a low-calorie diet. Strength training and muscle building will help with long-term weight loss because muscle burns more calories than fat, but to drop pounds quickly, you need a lot of motion in your exercise. Shapefit.com reports that step-aerobics, racquetball and swimming all burn about 400 calories for a 30-minute session. Biking burns 250 to 500 calories in 30 minutes.
