There are countless books, pills, remedies and gimmicks that claim to be the way to lose weight. According to a report published by the Federal Trade Commission, over $30 billion a year is spent on weight loss products and services, and yet the battle of the bulge continues. Despite the barrage of advice, there are simple and good ways to lose weight.
Journal
One of the best ways to lose weight is to begin to journal the foods you eat. Not the way the foods make you feel, but just a simple list. Spend a few days before beginning any weight loss endeavor and simply identify which unhealthy foods you eat the most. You cannot begin to change your eating behaviors until you realize what behaviors you have.
Cooking
The combination of the rise in packaged foods, restaurant eating and take-out meals contribute to the rise in pounds. A great way to lose weight is to cook food for yourself. Although cooking is not everyone's favorite activity, it is a necessary skill to have and to sharpen. By using simple recipes that incorporate healthy foods, you can lose weight and possibly find a new hobby.
Patience
Patience is a virtue and a key player in the game of losing weight and keeping it off. Pounds do not melt away over night and it is not realistic, or healthy, to rapidly lose weight. A good way to lose weight is to set a goal of no more than two pounds per week. By subtracting just 1,000 calories per day, through a combination of decreased consumption and exercise, you can drop those two pounds easily.
Exercise
The gold standard to losing weight involves exercise. A good way to lose weight is to incorporate daily physical activity. "It's all about calories in and calories out," says Christina Dorlig, a certified ACE personal trainer and founder of Findmytrainer.com, an online service providing personal trainers nationwide. "Being strong means more muscle and therefore you can burn more calories at rest." No matter what exercise you choose, any increase in daily physical activity is beneficial to weight loss.
