Self-help author and motivational guru Wayne Dyer said, "What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds." Throughout recorded history, great leaders and spiritual teachers have asserted that unfathomable capabilities lie within the human mind. The ability to utilize these faculties, however, is not an inherent skill. Mastering the power of your mind takes practice, and certain exercises can help you along the way.
Mind-Mapping
The mind map is a mental training tool that enables you to gain a broader understanding of complex systems and equations. You can use the mind-mapping process to accelerate learning, develop your imagination and increase your intuitive faculties.
To create a mind-map, you will need a sheet of paper or poster board and several colored pencils of varying tones. Think of a subject in which you currently wish to achieve more understanding. In the middle of your paper, write the central idea of your chosen topic. For instance, if you are preparing to make a speech, you would write in the underlying theme of your message and encapsulate it in a colored circle.
Next, begin drawing a series of straight lines outward from your circle, and upon each, write a key point that helps explain your core concept. Next, extend lines from every sub-heading that lists the fundamental parts of that idea. Continue minimizing your topic in this way until you get to a thorough depiction of the matter at hand. Underline each sub-idea in a different color.
The mind learns easier from pictures than words. Illustrating your ideas in this manner will improve your ability to comprehend how the parts of an issue come together in constructing the whole.
Manifestation
Self-improvement author Remez Sasson writes in a collective of short essays entitled "Mind Your Mind" that, "Emotions and feelings energize thoughts, the same way that electricity makes electric instruments work."
To utilize the power of your emotions, he suggests that you first vividly imagine a past success. Bring the image into clear focus, and allow yourself to re-experience all of the positive feelings connected to the event. When you are at the height of your emotional experience, bring to mind the ideal outcome of a present goal.
Doing this will charge the thoughts of your present desire with emotional energy, sending them out to the people and circumstances that align with your will. Also, good feelings lead to positive thoughts that, in turn, create more pleasurable emotions. Practicing this exercise will train you to instinctively tap in to the power of your creative mind.
Remote Communication
Author, researcher and hypnotist Jim Francis contends that, "Not only are individuals in subconscious mental contact, but also under some circumstances they can establish conscious mental contact." He has performed extensive research on a technique that teaches you how to enlist the help of others toward achieving your goals by communicating through the "universal mind."
Before you go to sleep at night, mentally repeat the phrase, "I will awake when my mind is connected with that of the one from whom I require assistance." Do this 20 times in a row to really install the idea within your subconscious mind. When you awake, relax and sit upright while you're still in a state of light awareness. At this time, simply say to the person exactly what you would say if he were there. In fact, envision him sitting directly in front of you and listening intently to your words. Finally, see you and him coming into an agreement that benefits both parties, and go about your day as usual.
