Bach Flower Remedies for Stress

Stress comes in many forms and degrees, from anxiety about an upcoming presentation to a feeling of being overwhelmed to utter hopelessness. Each Bach flower remedy works to alleviate a specific emotion or state of mind. Use your current feelings to help you select the correct remedy or even a combination of up to seven remedies. To take the remedy, add two drops of the flower essence to a glass of water or add to a 30 ml dropper bottle filled with water. Sip from the glass or take four drops from the dropper throughout the day as needed.

Oak

If you constantly find yourself driven past the point of exhaustion, but don't know when or how to stop, consider taking the oak flower remedy. Oak personalities resent illness or any condition that doesn't allow them to do all they want to do. The remedy helps you learn when to let go and acknowledge that it is better to stop than to break under the pressure.

Elm

Use elm when you feel overwhelmed by responsibility or unable to cope with a burden. You might suffer a temporary loss of confidence in your ability to complete your tasks. Elm distills your doubts and eliminates thoughts of failure.

Walnut

Especially useful during times of transition, walnut protects you from outside influences and the effects of change. Take walnut any time you experience a major life event, such as marriage or divorce, childbirth, a job change or a move. Walnut allows you to break the habits of the past and establish new patterns.

White Chestnut

The person who identifies with white chestnut goes over and over the same mental arguments or thoughts, similar to a dog worrying a bone. Try this remedy if you find it difficult to concentrate due to unresolved, repetitive thoughts that you cannot control or ignore. White chestnut provides relief from unwanted circular thoughts and helps you rationally deal with the problem.

Agrimony

If you hide your feelings behind a mask of cheerfulness or humor, but are tortured by your thoughts when you are alone, try agrimony. This state of mind can lead to alcoholism or addition. Agrimony helps you accept the less pleasant side of life while still embracing the good things.

Crisis Formula

The only combination remedy developed by Dr. Edward Bach, the crisis formula works for emergency situations and crises. The five flowers in the formula--cherry plum, clematis, impatiens, rock rose and star of Bethlehem--address an array of emotions that can lead to stress or anxiety. Use the crisis formula as an all-encompassing stress remedy, especially when time restrictions prevent the selection process. The crisis formula is available commercially or you can make your own using two drops of each flower essence in a 30 ml dropper bottle filled with spring water. Use four drops of the crisis formula whenever you would otherwise use two drops of a single remedy.
