Before sitting down for a romantic dinner, couples can enjoy numerous outdoor and recreational activities in Cleveland. Fun things on a date include golfing, swimming and exploring the many trails throughout the city. Fishing opportunities abound in Cleveland as fishing is one of the city's most popular past times. Many of these activities are available year-round.

Dinner

Cleveland has a wide variety of restaurants that serve regional and international cuisine. The 1890 at The Arcade restaurant located in the newly opened Hyatt Regency Cleveland hotel prepares elegant four-course dinners and features a large wine selection. The Bistro on Lincoln Park is a Mediterranean bistro that serves French, Italian and Spanish specialties in a casual and modern atmosphere. Fine French cuisine is found at the upscale Sans Souci located in the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

Golfing

The Little Met Golf Course on Old Lorain Road in Cleveland is a 9-hole, par-34 course with a pro shop, snack bar and practice putting greens. The modestly priced course is a favorite among locals and is located near Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport. Mastick Woods Golf Course is a 9-hole executive length course adjacent to Little Met. The course is ideal for beginners. Club rental is available and a pro shop and snack bar are on-site.

Fishing

The Cleveland Park District features 13 fishing areas within the metropolitan area; among them, Lake Erie and the Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation. In addition, Cleveland has 26 stream-miles along the Rocky River, which are open for public fishing. Some portions of the Chagrin River and Cuyahoga River are also part of the Cleveland fishing scene. Rainbow trout are found in the many lakes and ponds that dot the Cleveland area. Fishing is allowed in Cleveland Metroparks-managed territory from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Each angler must have a valid Ohio fishing license.

Swimming

Couples looking to cool off can take advantage of three Cleveland Metroparks swimming areas that are free and open from mid-June through mid-August. Huntington Beach in the Huntington Reservation is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., while Wallace Lake in the Mill Stream Reservation and Hinckley Lake in the Hinckley Reservation are both open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Ledge Pool and Recreation Area is also available for swimmers and features an 80 by 100-foot pool that is open from Memorial Day through mid-August.

Trails System

The Cleveland Metroparks Trail system features more than 60 miles of paved paths for cycling, walking, running and in-line skating. The numerous trails stretch across the city's various reservations such as Big Creek, Euclid, North Chagrin, Rocky River and Brecksville. Some trails are designed for more challenging hiking and require a certain level of fitness. There are also 82 miles of bridle trails for horseback riding.
