When undergoing a colonic, it is important to rinse the colon several times, which can use up to five gallons of water.
An enema is another way to close the colon. During an enema, a tube is used to push water through the anus and into the colon to rinse out waste. An enema typically used 32 oz. of water and requires just one rinse.

Diet

When eating to detox the body you should avoid fatty, processed and deep-fried foods while eating foods that are high in fiber. You should eat legumes, beans, whole grains, vegetables and raw fruits. A variety of detoxification teas use herbs, such as buchu leaves, dandelion and clover to help rid the body of toxins and impurities.

Water

Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis aids the body in naturally ridding itself of toxins. For a complete cleansing, nutritionists recommend drinking a minimum of 8 to 10 glasses of water each day.

Fasting And Juicing

To perform a fast, you would simply consume liquids and nothing else for 10 to 45 days, depending on the fast. Cleansing liquids include lemon juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice and other citrus juices. One popular juicing method consists of mixing bottled water and lemon juice with small amounts of cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Apple juice is occasionally used for fasting. Drinking juices while fasting keeps essential nutrients and vitamins in the system while detoxing the body.

Perspiration

Sweating is the only way that toxins can be eliminated through the skin. Vigorous exercise produces sweat and will aid in cleansing the system. If you are not able to work out, you can use a steam room or sauna to release the toxins through perspiration.
