If your hair looks dry, limp and frizzy, it may be damaged. Hair that is damaged may break off at the crown and look frayed at the ends. If you blow dry, perm, color or straighten your hair frequently, you may be exposing your hair to additional damage. Add moisture to your hair and protect it from damage to help make your hair shiny and smooth again.

Egg White Mask

Mix an egg white mask using items from your refrigerator to make your hair shiny and silky, says Kori Ellis in an article on the beauty website, SheKnows.com. Whip one egg white until it froths, then add 1/4 cup of plain organic yogurt and 1/4 cup of mayonnaise. Mix until the ingredients are combined, then wet your hair. Apply the mixture to wet hair, then cover your hair with a shower cap to prevent dripping. After 30 minutes, remove the shower cap and rinse your hair. Lather your hair with a mild shampoo, then rinse it in cold water.

Change Brushing Habits

Brushing hair when it is wet may cause hair breakage, particularly in already damaged hair. If you notice short hairs sticking up from your hairline, these are hairs that may have broken off while brushing wet hair. To prevent breakage, wait until your hair is completely dry before brushing or combing it, says an article in "Good Housekeeping." Use a natural hairbrush made with boar bristles or wooden bristles to prevent hair from breaking and keep it looking healthy.

Cut Off Split Ends

When hair is dry and damaged, the ends of your hair may split. Split ends may make your hair look frayed and frizzy, and your hair may become tangled more easily than usual. To keep hair looking and feeling more healthy, trim off split ends regularly, recommends Thomas Goodman, Jr., M.D., assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis. Approximately every six weeks, carefully trim your hair with a pair of sharp scissors or hair shears to eliminate split ends.
