Candidiasis is a fungal condition characterized by an overgrowth of yeast on or in the body. The most common sites of yeast overgrowth are the mouth, throat and vaginal tract. Invasive candidiasis can enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body if left untreated. Although additional treatment may be needed to address a candida infection, dietary changes can help support treatment and control the future growth of yeast in your body.

Foods That Encourage Yeast Growth

A variety of foods can encourage the growth of yeast in your body, including those that are highly processed and refined, vinegar, sweets, fruit, grains, starchy vegetables, fish, processed meats, most vegetable oils, margarine and alcohol. Foods likely to have mold, such as aged cheese, peanuts and mushrooms, may also support fungal growth.

Dietary Recommendations

Consume a varied diet rich in lean proteins like chicken, fish and grass-fed beef, nuts and seeds, nonstarchy vegetables and healthy oils and fats like avocados, olive oil and grass-fed butter to help keep yeast growth at bay. Probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir and kimchi or probiotic supplements can help restore the balance of your intestinal flora as well.
