If you want to use leg exercises for weight loss, take advantage of a leg press machine. The leg press machine provides the same benefits you would receive from squatting but without the physical impact on your lower body. Incorporate stability ball exercises and sprints into your workout. Such leg exercises will push you to focus more directly on your target area.
Stability Ball Leg Curl
The stability ball leg curl primarily focuses on your thighs while also targeting your lower legs. Focus on your hamstrings during this exercise to maximize the results of your workout. Lie on your back with your feet on a stability ball. Keep your knees bent and your arms down beside your hips. Using your hamstrings, lift your hips off the floor. Roll down until your hips are back on the floor. Repeat. For a more intense exercise, perform the curl one leg at a time instead of using both legs.
Leg Press
Start this exercise without adding any weights to the leg press machine. Gradually increase the weight as your legs become stronger. Sit and position your feet in a wide stance to work your glutes and hamstrings, or use a narrow stance to work your calves. Release the machine's safety clips. Lower the leg press in a controlled manner until your knees are near a 90-degree angle or reach a comfortable level. Push the leg press back up to the beginning position and repeat. While the leg press is similar to squatting, it has less of an impact on your back and knees. The safety clips prevent the weight from dropping. Incorporate the leg press into your fitness routine for a full leg workout.
Hill Sprinting
Sprinting blasts fat and tones your legs at the same time. Add an incline, such as a hill, to create a tougher, more effective workout. Jog to the nearest incline and sprint up the hill as fast as possible. Walk down the hill. Sprint back up the hill when you reach the bottom. Interval training is one of the best cardiovascular activities. When you perform interval training correctly, it also directly develops your lower body.
