One in five couples in the United States experiences fertility problems, according to Dr. James F. Balch, author of "Prescription for Nutritional Healing." For men, infertility is typically caused by a low sperm count; for women, common causes include blocked fallopian tubes and ovulatory failure. There are many other causes of infertility, so seek the advice of a medical professional.

Dong Quai

Dong quai (Angelica senisis) is a member of the parsley family. It is used in traditional Chinese medicine to cure a variety of maladies, including arthritis, menstrual cramps and kidney problems, according to the Herbal Remedies Info website. Dong quai may also improve sexual function and increase fertility in women, says Dr. James F. Balch, author of "Prescription for Nutritional Healing."

Astragalus

Astragalus is a plant native to the northeastern area of China, as well as parts of Korea and Mongolia. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners use this herb as an antioxidant and a natural antibiotic, according the the University of Maryland Medical Center. Astragalus may also stimulate sperm motility, which is the ability of sperm to move independently and rapidly, notes Balch.

Ginseng

Ginseng can refer to three plants: American, Chinese and Siberian ginseng. The Siberian version is not a true ginseng, but has many of the same active chemicals as the American and Chinese versions, according to Michael Castleman, author of "The Healing Herbs." Balch notes that ginseng may help increase the function of the male sexual organs and stimulate sperm production.
