Body wraps are offered in spas and skin-care clinics as an alternative weight-loss means. They are claimed to remove toxins and excess water weight through herbs and increased sweating, eliminating several inches from your body with just one session. Body wraps are a temporary weight-loss solution that tightens and tones skin while improving texture, which is the reason that inches are lost on the body. Wraps can be done in a spa setting or at home.
Step 1
Cleanse your body thoroughly in a warm shower to open pores and removed embedded bacteria and dead skin cells. Body wraps are less effective if pores are closed and not cleaned properly.
Step 2
Boil two cups of water in a clean pot and add a quarter cup of sea salt. Stir salt water until sea salt is completely dissolved then add one cup green clay and 2 tbsp olive oil. This will form a moist paste. You may also add additional herbs, such as basil or chamomile, for a relaxing aromatherapy effect. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature.
Step 3
Apply clay mixture to the body where weight loss is desired, such as your waist, thighs, and arms. Ask a friend or loved one to help to apply the mixture to your back to ensure thorough application.
Step 4
Wrap each treated body part with saran wrap or clean wrapping sheets, available in most beauty supply stores. Avoid wrapping your body so tightly that it restricts blood circulation. Wrapping should be snug yet loose enough for you to move freely.
Step 5
Allow the wrap to remain on the body for 45 minutes to one hour. During this time, your body will expel built up toxins through the natural sweating process.
Step 6
Remove your body wrap and shower to remove remaining clay mixture and sweat. Use a gentle cleanser so as not to irritate freshly treated skin.
Tips and Warnings
- Drink plenty of water before and after your wrap to prevent dehydration. Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 48 hours following your wrap.
