It's no wonder Tony Bennett sang, "I left my heart in San Francisco." San Fran can be a great romantic setting to celebrate Valentine's Day with a sweetheart. You can choose to take in some breathtaking sights, get some exercise together and then work up an appetite for some tasty and nutritious cuisine.

Fisherman's Wharf

Head down to Fisherman's Wharf to enjoy the salty sea air, a long pleasant walk with views of fishermen hard at work and fresh seafood. This area is prone to tourists, but if you don't mind minor crowds and some impulse shopping opportunities, there is a lot to be enjoyed at the Wharf.

Alcatraz Island

If you enjoy being protected by your honey as you watch a scary movie, head over to Alcatraz island where you can huddle together as you learn about San Francisco's legendary prison history. Be prepared to spend a few hours on your Alcatraz adventure--planning for the time it spends to take the ferry ride over, and how long you intend to spend touring the facilities.

Ghiradelli Square

Valentine's Day is a great time to indulge in something sweet. Make your dessert more romantic by sharing one dish. This will save calories and will literally bring you and your sweetie closer together. Ghiradelli Square is a great choice for indulgences, and a must for any chocolate lover. Try one signature hot fudge sundae with two spoons. Or for a smaller indulgence, opt for one of Ghiradelli's famous dark chocolate squares.

Lombard Street

If you and your date need to walk off a big lunch or a dessert at Ghiradelli square, take a hike down--or up--the steep hills near historical Lombard Street. The most crooked street in America is quite a sight to see. Make sure to stretch first, and you'll get your strength and cardio workouts from walking in the area as you marvel at the beauty of this San Francisco landmark.

Golden Gate Bridge

At the end of the day, make sure to watch the sunset on the Golden Gate Bridge. This Bridge is one of the most revered in the world. Considered a trademark image of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is painted a deep orange that blends beautifully with surroundings in any sort of weather. Views of the bridge are particularly lovely from the North side.
