Whether you are an experienced alternative physician or have never fasted in your life, a body cleanse offers an alternative method for flushing the body of toxins. While relatively little peer-reviewed data exists on the specific effects of internal cleansing, proponents of the practice claim a wide variety of health benefits ranging from improved digestion to the elimination of parasites, heavy metals, prescription drugs, fertilizers and other external toxins stored in the digestive tract. While there are numerous cleanses to choose from, the 10-day Master Cleanse is one of the few that claims to extensively improve health throughout all of the body's functions.
Step 1
Plan your 10-day Master Cleanse by examining your schedule and selecting a 10-day slot wherein you are not required to undergo any strenuous labor. Mentally prepare to abstain from all food and liquid stimulants for the next 10 days.
Step 2
Insert 1 to 2 tsp. of senna leaf into a mesh tea ball and place it inside a clean coffee cup or mug. Add two cups of boiling water to the coffee cup and let steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink this herbal laxative tea every evening immediately prior to going to bed for the next 10 days.
Step 3
Fill the 32-oz. drinking container with filtered water and add 1 to 2 tsp. of sea salt. Mix the salt and water with a chopstick or stirring utensil and steadily drink the entire container immediately upon waking up each morning. Three to four bowel movements will occur in the morning, so schedule time as necessary.
Step 4
Cut six to eight organic fresh lemons in half and press the pulp side against the electronic juicer until all of the lemon halves have been juiced. Add one cup of grade B organic maple syrup to the lemon juice and stir until the juice is fully mixed. Pour 1/2 cup of the body cleanse juice mix into the 32-oz. drinking container and add 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper. Fill to the brim with filtered water and stir until mixed; drink four times a day or until the body cleanse juice mix is fully consumed.
Step 5
Repeat for the next 10 days while abstaining from food or liquid stimulants such as sugar, caffeine or alcohol.
Tips and Warnings
- While there are a number of ways to break the fast after the tenth day, the most common way is to drink 24 ozs. of fresh orange juice four times a day for two days in order to restore the digestive enzymes. If you wish to cut your orange juice consumption to half a day, remember to begin with soft or liquid foods such as broths and soups, until the stomach returns to its normal size.
- It is very important that you drink enough water while undergoing the Master Cleanse. As you are abstaining from food, a common hydration source, you will need to drink more water than you normally consume in order to maintain a healthy hydration level. If you experience any bodily discomfort, nausea, dizziness or increased heart rate, discontinue the cleanse immediately and contact your personal physician.
