Eye Exercises to Improve Your Vision Naturally

Performing eye exercises to improve your vision rather than relying on the traditional route of using glasses or contact lenses can be a natural option for treating eye problems, such as astigmatism, farsightedness or nearsightedness. Working on strengthening the muscles of the eyes on a daily basis as you would the other muscles in your body may offset the strain of working on a computer and provide a way to improve your vision naturally.

Palming Exercise

The palming exercise is used during the day when your eyes are tired or after a long stint on the computer. Find a comfortable place to sit or put your arms on your desk and close your eyes. Cover both eyes with your hands cupped. You should be able to blink. You can use your cheekbones to support the bottom of your hand if necessary. Sit with you eyes covered for several minutes while taking relaxing breaths. Repeat as needed throughout the day.

Eye Rotations

With both eyes closed, slowly lift your eyes up as far as is comfortable. Slowly look down toward the floor. With your eyes still closed, slowly rotate your eyes to the left side of your face, back to center and then to the right side. Repeat each eye rotation several times.

Focusing Exercise

In a seated position, position one arm in front of you with your thumb facing up. Focus on the thumb and slowly bring it toward your face until it is just a few inches away from your eyes. Move your arm back out. Repeat the exercise for several minutes throughout the day.

Scanning Exercise

The scanning exercise counteracts the act of staring in one spot for long periods of time, helping to increase blood flow and energy to your eyes. As you sit or stand in one spot, move your eyes around the room specifically noticing the shapes of edges of the things in the room. Continue to move your eyes without stopping, taking easy breaths for a minimum of two minutes.
